Choir

Learned sightreading, solfège, music theory, and repertoire in multiple languages from around the world. Spent 4 years on peer-elected leadership team - sent weekly emails, planned events, represented the choir in public, managed logistics for custom attire. Participated in domestic and international tours, including one to England/Wales last year where we were named Young Choir of the World at a choral competition in Llangollen.

KinderChoir Teaching Assistant

Selected from many applicants to be KinderChoir teaching assistant. Facilitated song games; taught rhythm, solfège, repertoire; resolved conflicts; implemented Covid protocols; and was in charge of communication with parents regarding attendance and behavior.

Musical Theater

Performed in a range of musical theater shows where we learned the songs, dances, and staging of our show in 8 weeks. We worked with professional directors/crew members. I helped cultivate a supportive environment, pass down theater company traditions, and collaborate in diverse casts of middle schoolers to college students.

TheaterDance

Studied TheaterDance (1920s - 2020s). Learned multiple styles including ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, soft shoe and original Broadway choreo from Fosse, Robins, Tharp and more. Performed for United Nation’s SF Chapter Children’s Day (2017 & 2021); member of select, invitation-only performing Crew of highest-level dancers; recruited new dancers.

Jewish Youth for Community Action (JYCA)

Co-chair of Culture Committee – organized/budgeted events like Rosh Hashanah ceremony, Hannukah celebration; Participated in leadership training in many areas e.g. Active Listening; Racial Justice; Class & Inequality; Youth Empowerment. Discussed current issues’ connection to Judaism, did community outreach and service, fostered community.

Jews Against Marginalization (JAM)

JAM creates space for mixed race/POC to find a home in the Jewish community. We discuss the intersectionality of race and religion in the context of current events, and how to positively impact others through social justice and community service.

Voice Lessons

Studied classical, folk, choral, musical theater and pop music with a professional voice teacher. Learned pieces in languages from German to Estonian, Latin to Chinese, Hindu to Hebrew; practiced breath support, range expansion, tone, and expressing the emotions in the piece.

Berkeley Rep Teen Council

Planned Teen Nights where we interviewed cast or crew members of the current Berkeley Rep show in front of an audience of other teens; led games about issues relevant to the show; helped market shows to teens across the Bay area; advocated for arts education.

Took classes at a hip-hop studio of primarily adults. Explored different nuances with a variety of guest instructors in a welcoming, non-competitive, diverse environment.

Golden Gate International Choral Festival Solo Competition – 2nd Place Winner

This award was for the Youth category (ages 17-24) of a vocal solo competition at an international choral festival. Competitors were selected by a rigorous audition process and performed two memorized, contrasting pieces for an international jury panel. The top 3 singers with the highest scores were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively.
